Hear from Daniel Holsapple with the Daluviwi’ Community Garden at Blue Lake Rancheria about growing produce for their elders and offering summer agricultural internships for high school and college students. Learn how Centro Del Pueblo strives to connect the refugee and immigrant communities with their ancestral foods and growing methods from Executive Director, Brenda Perez. Discover how the Rou Dalagurr Food Sovereignty Lab is doing research and hands-on practice to preserve traditional ecological knowledge around food from researcher Karley Rojas.

Composting: The Dark Art of Decay

Hear a brief overview of composting legislation SB1383 and how the new law is being implemented in Humboldt County with Shelly Reider from Zero Waste Humboldt.
Learn about many different ways to compost from local biodynamic farmer Mica O’Herlihy. Techniques covered will include Johnson-Su bio accumulators, weed tea, anaerobic vs aerobic compost teas, thermophilic vs mesophilic piles, hydrolysate, Korean natural farming, and vermicompost.
